5 Things I Want YOU To Know About Me!
By Ricardo ‘Rease’ Butler
With this article I wanted all who come to this new Comic Story Hub Blog to know a few things about me. No, this won’t be that post where I give you all my dirt and pull all the bones out of my closet (we will eventually get to that one day). However, this is me sharing a bit of things about myself that are fun, interesting, or could even be considered controversial to others.
Now before I start, I want you to know that I have another blog and when I share this blog to my social media, many will mistake this article as coming from that other blog. So I will probably have two types of readers: comic books fans and hardcore Christians. This blog and this blog post will NOT be me writing to nor for the hardcore Christian. This is for all my DC Comics fans. So if there are comments below, I will probably get “hate mail” from the Christian community, but support from the DC Comics fans. With that said, let’s go!
Number 1: I was not always a DC Comics fan
For those who truly know me, they will tell you that I am actually a hardcore Transformers fan. I grow up first on the GoBots cartoon when I was 5 years old in 1983. But one day it stopped airing and then Transformers came on. For a long time, I thought Transformers was like a newer form or a continuing season of GoBots. For years and even still today I am actually a hardcore Transformers Fan.
You are probably asking, “Well Rease, why didn’t you start blogging first about Transformers instead of DC Comics?” The simple answer is that I am not familiar with all there is about Transformers. I just know all the TV cartoons. They have a rich history of comic book stories of which I’ve never read a single Transformers comic book.
I’ve read DC Comics. I’ve watched all the movies. I’ve watched all the TV shows and cartoons and animated movies. I’ve played the video games and bought the toys. So though I am more of a hardcore Transformers fan, I know the rich history of DC Comics and the characters and stories much better.
Number 2: I am a hardcore Christian
As I mentioned above, my other blog at http://www.ricardoequips.com is actually a Church Leader and Church ministry development websites for Christians looking to learn how to either lead or learn how to minister better to each other and the world for God, His Christ and the Kingdom of God. I have pastored churches, I have toured as a Christian hip-hop artist, and I have trained and developed ministry leaders all over the globe as modern day apostle of Jesus Christ.
While I will always have a heart for God and His people, I believe that we should be reaching out to those who don’t know God. While Comic Book Hub is my way to reach out to those who might not know God, it will NOT be a heavy Christian site with Church lingo and get saved messages or calls to repent from your sin.
The purpose of this site will be to use the stories of DC characters as metaphors of how Christ would have done the same thing in given situations. A lot of the moral aspects of characters like Batman and Superman or Green Lantern have some moral traits of Jesus. My goal is to use these stories to inspire us all to be heroes to change our world for the better because that’s what Jesus would do.
Number 3: My Favorite DC Character is …
Yes, I am sorry that this is cliché but it is truth. I am a fan of Superman/Clark Kent/Kal El and all variations of him (except for any evil versions like Ultraman, Injustice Dictator Superman etc). My favorite version of Superman (which is common sense if you’ve taken a look throughout this blog so far of have seen me on Facebook is Earth 2’s new Superman Val Zod. Yes, he’s a black version of Superman who took Earth 2’s Superman’s place after Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman died fighting in the Apokolips War against Steppenwolf, and his Parademon army in New 52’s Earth 2 Society Issue 1: The Epic Begins – A Different World; A Different Destiny (July 2012).
Well, he actually took Superman’s place in New 52’s Earth 2 Society Issue 25: Rise of a Superman (Sept. 2014), more then 2 years later in the series. A few issues later, Val Zod fights an evil version of Kal El controlled by Darkseid and defeats him with ease. It’s a great series and you should check it out! Here’s a link for you to check out all of the series.
Again, all versions of Superman are my favorite DC character(s).
Number 4: My Favorite DC Story Arc is …
This may be a surprise to you after revealing that Superman is my favorite character, but my favorite DC story Arc is NOT from any of the Superman stories. My favorite Superman story for the record is Superman: Last Son of Krypton (2006-2008). But my favorite DC story arc or series is actually New 52’s Batman Volume 3 – Death of the Family (2012-2013). OMG! The chilling story of Scott Synder’s version of the Joker and the imagery of Greg Capullo is just eerie! It’s a page turner just to find out what the Joker’s sick mind will do next to the Bat Family! If you have not read this story I highly suggest you read it. And if you are under 13 I highly recommend that your parents read it first before you pick it up and have clown nightmares for the rest of your life!
The Joker pulls off some of his most twisted acts of violence I have ever seen or ever heard of in any horror flick, comic, or story EVER! It is a MUST READ!
Number 5: I Am an Author …
I have always been a writer in some form or another. I started off writing poetry in middle school, then got into writing rhymes and rapping in hip-hop for almost 20 years, then I was writing sermons as a teaching pastor, then training materials as an apostle, then blogging and copy-writing, and eventually I authored more then 20 something e-Books and several Kindle books on Amazon (you can check out my Amazon books at http://www.amazon.com/author/ricardoequips/). I hope to one day get into learning the art of comic book writing and story telling. That is basically my end goal. So I have been studying and practicing all forms of writing that has been very interesting to me.
So that’s about it. I mean there are other things I could tell you about like I am a Full Sail University Graduate with a Bachelors in Music Business or that I was a full trained chef or food service specialist of the US Army. Yup! I’m a veteran of the US Military. I have four kids, 3 girls and a boy at the time of this article they range from ages 19, 18, 9, and 8. So yes, I’m an old man who is 38 years old with the hopes of one day writing Superman stories for DC Comics one day!
Thanks for reading!
