Superman Vs. Lobo

Hey DC fans, I’m Ricardo Butler aka Rease Val Zod aka the Black Kryptonian. And I am back with part three or better yet the third movie of my DC Universe if I was hired by President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav instead of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

We are still copying the Marvel template as I mentioned before in the previous blog posts, but we are trying to do it better. Because that was the task given to us by David Zaslav.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

We know that after Marvel put out the first Iron Man, they put out Incredible Hulk second. But then they put out the second Iron Man movie. That means we got to put out another Superman movie. And since David Zaslav has made it clear that Superman is the priority, a second Superman movie is obviously the next one up!

A lot of part 2 movies nowadays don’t connect as they used to in the first film. And if they do, it’s usually weeks or months, or even years that have passed before the second story takes place. In my Superman 2 movie, they are literally back-to-back. It starts right where the first film left off.

While Batman Vs. Deathstroke is the 2nd movie to come out. It is happening after Superman 2 in the story or timeline or chronologically.

Lobo

While there are a lot of Lobo stories, there are surprisingly not a lot of Superman Vs. Lobo stories that are good enough to make a movie. But there are two that stuck out the most to me.

  1. Superman: Man of Tomorrow is a 2020 American animated superhero film directed by Chris Palmer and written by Tim Sheridan. It is the first installment in what is known as the Tomorrowverse. I mentioned this one in the Superman: Mild Manner post as the first movie. But in that story, the focus was on Superman’s early years in Metropolis, which is what James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy would focus on. I am using the Lobo part of this movie as the second movie. As I said, my movie starts after my first Superman movie ends. So, this is like two stories split in two of the Man of Tomorrow Animated movie.
  • Superman: The Animated Series: Episodes 1 and 2 – The Main Man is where intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo is employed to capture the Man of Steel for the rare-species-collecting Preserver, who is obsessed with keeping endangered species in captivity to protect them and prevent their extinction. Superman, the last Kryptonian, is the latest catch for his collection. Upon realizing that Lobo is the last Czarnian (having killed all the others himself), he betrays the bounty hunter and adds him to the collection as well.

In both of these stories, the idea is that Lobo is sent to Earth to capture the last Kryptonian, Superman. But for my movie’s story, Darkseid will deploy Lobo the same way he did to capture Superman as he did in the Injustice God’s Among Us comic book Annual 1.

  • Superman vs. Lobo (1-3) (August 24, 2021–March 8, 2022) From writers Tim Seeley and Sarah Beattie, where Superman and Lobo are kidnapped by a being able to warp reality. He does so by bringing back the dead worlds of both Superman and Lobo but put each of them on the other’s planet as both an accident and an experiment. I bring up this third one because it is the title of the movie but I didn’t want to use this story because it is too wacky for a movie in my opinion. I mean it might fit James Gunn’s style but not mine.

In all four stories (if you count the Injustice Gods Among Us comic) is that Lobo comes for Superman. They fight for a bit, but Lobo realizes he’s being used, or a bigger threat comes along, and they team up to fight the threat. While Superman remains his honest optimistic self during the team-up Lobo remains the betrayer at the last minute to save his own ass even though they defeat the current threat together.

Cast & Character Motives

Our main must-haves in this movie are our Marvel counterparts I will list first. And then I will list others who could potentially be used as well. I’m no writer so these secondary characters are optional.

Superman / Clark Kent / Kal El: In this movie, Superman has been accepted a bit more for saving the city from the last movie with help from Lois Lane writing positively about him in the Daily Planet. As always, his motive is to protect the Earth, Metropolis, and of course Lois Lane above all things. That never changes with my version of Superman.

Martian Manhunter / J’onn J’onzz / John Jones: Martian Manhunter is my DC version of Nick Fury. So he is back in this movie in a more active role because Lobo is also after the last Martian as well, though not initially seeking J’onn.

Jimmy Olsen: Jimmy is our Rhodey friend of Superman as Rhodey was for Tony Stark, but not as a superhero. He’s more of the eyes and ears on the street character to let Superman know what’s going on. He discovers a plot that points to the greater threat of Darkseid kidnapping and trafficking children with the potential meta-gene.

Lois Lane: Lois as Pepper was to Tony has become a voice, promoter, supporter, and fan of Superman to the city and the world through the Daily Planet. She starts to catch feelings for him a bit more in this movie of course as he also makes known his secret identity in this movie.

Lex Luthor: Lex Luthor is our Justin Hammers counterpart. He will not be as front and center as he was in Mild Mannered. Lex Luthor has many connections going on in this movie. He’s working for Darkseid behind the scenes. Superman needs his help to fight Lobo sometime during the movie. And Lex Luthor has also recruited Lobo behind Superman’s back to take Superman down. He is secretly helping with the whole kidnapping and trafficking of children with latent meta-gene powers.

Lobo: I didn’t say this in my other blog post because I am figuring this all out as I go, but Lobo would be the character introduced in the end credit scene. As I mentioned earlier, Lobo was sent to Earth by Darkseid to capture Superman, but on the side, he has been kidnapping and trafficking children with the hidden meta-gene to Apokolips also. He ends up working for Lex Luthor, with Superman, and turns against Darkseid during this movie.

Other Supporting Character Rolls (Optional)

Darkseid: This will be the first time Darkseid is introduced into the universe as a behind-the-scenes threat as Thanos was to the MCU. I would have him in some kind of meeting and conversation with Lobo.

Perry White: The first of the Daily Planet staff is Perry White. You can’t have a Daily Planet work environment for Clark Kent without the Chief Editor Perry White.

Big Barda / Barda Free: I would introduce Big Barda as a secret help behind the scenes to the point that Superman doesn’t know about it.

Mr. Miracle / Scott Free: The husband of Big Barda would eventually make himself known to Superman and Martian Manhunter about the plans of Darkseid sometime in the movie.

And this is the third story of my DCU if I was James Gunn and Peter Safron!
