The Flash & Green Lantern

Hey DC fans! This is Ricardo Butler aka Rease Val Zod aka the Black Kryptonian, back with part 4 which is the fourth movie of my DC Universe. We already know what it is! So, let’s see how we are going to copy Marvel’s template.

Thor (2011)

While Thor is the 4th movie in the MCU, I was just going to keep this as a Flash solo movie. But since Ezra Miller’s Flash Movie would have recently passed, I decided to change this into a Flash & Green Lantern movie. So, I’m using both Barry Allen and Hal Jordan. I put Flash’s name first because it will be more of him in the movie as the main character and Green Lantern would be like a secondary character.

The reason why I would combine these characters is that in a lot of iterations, the way these two play off each other is great and it is something I would love to see on the big screen. As I said before, Flash would be the main character because I believe Flash is played off as not as important in comparison to the big three in the DC Trinity.

I am keeping Green Lantern more as a secondary character because I want to ease the character back into live action. The bad taste left in many fans’ mouths by the Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds has kept anything from the world of Green Lantern out of the DC Universe for way too long. The funny about Green Lantern is that I am not a big fan of any of the many Green Lantern characters. But I LOVE their comic stories. I believe Geoff Johns wrote a lot of the more recent stories during the New 52 and Rebirth era. I’m not sure, but the stories are so good. So, this is why, later in my DCU, I would put out a Green Lantern Corp movie. One Green Lantern alone is not interesting to me, but their whole world is with all their characters and villains and the whole cosmic side of the DC Universe is so well written that I love all of it! And this makes it harder for me to pick a favorite Green Lantern character. I love them all! I love Sinestro and I love Atrocitus! I even love Larfreeze! But we will get into that in a future blog post.

The Flash Vol. 2: Rogues Revolution (Collects issues #9-12, #0, and Annual #1) (May 23, 2012–August 29, 2012)

My Flash movie would be inspired by the New 52 story called The Flash NEW 52 Vol. 2: Rogues Revolution (Collects issues #9-12, #0, and Annual #1) (May 23, 2012–August 29, 2012). This is an awesome story about how the Rogues, instead of using weapons as their power source are giving powers through science. They have their whole DNA rewritten to where they no longer need their weapons. I mean it turns into a civil war between the Rogues as Heatwave, Weather Wizard, Trickster, and Mirror Master with the help and leadership of Captain Cold’s sister Golden Glider fight against Captain Cold as their former leader. Captain Cold ends up getting helped by the Flash as well as Pied Piper to stop them.

But in my movie, I would have to change this all up because I am adding Green Lantern Hal Jordan to the mix. Plus, the main villain is Professor Eobard Thawne aka Reverse Flash or Professor Zoom, and not the Rogues at all. He teams up with Green Lantern villain Hector Hammond. In my story, Hector Hammond is a scientist, and he works with Professor Zoom who learns how to turn regular people into metahumans by using Apokoliptic technology which ties into the larger story of kidnapping people to build Darkseid’s future army against the Justice League.

Cast & Character Motives

Getting into the motivations of the characters let me start with their MCU matches since we are still slightly following the Marvel template for our movies to be successful.

Barry Allen / The Flash: Of course, our counterpart for Thor is Barry Allen’s the Flash. In this movie, his motives are not that complicated. He’s just a forensic scientist working as a CSI cop who wants to prove his dad is innocent. He wants to get his dad out of prison because he believes his dad is not his mother’s killer. He’s just a cop trying to do the right thing as a police officer and as the Flash. He has a busy life and doesn’t have time for anything else right now. Later in the movie, as things unfold you see him get more enraged after he finds out Reverse Flash is the one who kills his mom and frames his dad. Plus, during his time playing buddy cop with Green Lantern Hal Jordan, they stumble into a bigger plot with the human trafficking going on with Apokolips. Barry’s motives are simple. At the beginning of this movie, he’s not trying to save the world. He’s just trying to save his dad.

Iris West: She is our Jane Foster. A fiery up-and-coming news reporter she’s always out trying to get the story. She finds an attraction to Barry Allen as he tends to be her source of facts for a lot of her reporting on crime scenes in Central City. She is the first to stumble upon the truth about the human trafficking of Apokolips, which gets her in trouble and captured where she must be saved by Barry and Hal.

Professor Eobard Thawne / Reverse Flash / Professor Zoom: While he is our Loki, he is not Barry’s sibling in any way. He is a man from the future who is a “Stan” fan of Barry and wants to be Barry. He wants to be the Flash. He eventually replicates the accident that gives him the same powers as Barry and ends up wanting to be better as he gets jealous of Barry’s speed and awesome feats throughout history. He comes back to the past to kill Barry’s mom and sets up the crime scene to frame Barry’s father. He has mastered this ability to replicate powers the same way he got his powers and weaponizes them when he teams up with Darkseid’s forces such as Dasaad.

Hector Hammond: Hector Hammond is our Erik Selvig. As I mentioned before, he is a scientist who works with Professor Zoom, who learns how to turn regular people into metahumans by using Apokoliptic technology, which ties into the larger story of kidnapping people to build Darkseid’s future army against the Justice League. His rivalry with Hal Jordan over the affections of Carol Ferris is what connects him to this story. He likes her, but she likes Hal is what creates their opposition. Also, he receives his psionic powers from Reverse Flash’s technology and experiments from a radioactive piece of space meteorite.

Carol Ferris: She is our Darcy Lewis in this movie. She is a long-time friend of Iris West, a childhood friend of Hal Jordan and his family, and Hector Hammond has been a secret admirer of hers for a long time as well. I don’t want to get into her whole history in this movie. I don’t want to cover her back story or her current story in the world of her running Ferris airbase. This will be explored in a later Green Lantern movie. But one thing I would do in this movie is her becoming a Star Sapphire would be one of two end/mid-credit scenes. For now, in this movie, Carol Ferris is simply a friend of Iris, a love interest of Hal Jordan, and she is secretly admired by Hector Hammond.

Captain Darryl Frye: He is our Phil Coulson but not to the extinct of being like Phil Coulson in the MCU. He will not be making multiple appearances. He’s just in this movie for two reasons. As a father figure to Barry Allen after his dad was framed for his mother’s death and sentenced to prison. And he is, of course, Barry’s boss on the police force for CCPD. If you’ve read the new 52 run of the Flash, he is also hiding the truth about Barry’s mom, dad, and Reverse Flash. And the truth was Barry’s mom was having an affair with Captain Frye.

Leonard Snart / Captain Cold: I thought it would be funny to make DC’s Captain cold Laufey. Because Laufey is the ruler of the Frost Giants. Thor’s casting had so many characters. I just had to cast as many characters to follow the MCU’s success. So, we added the Rogues into the mix. Plus, we’ve only seen the Rogues on the Flash TV show or in animated shows/movies. I want to see them in live action on the big screen. As in the Rogues Revolution story, Captain Cold’s motive is about keeping the Rogues together as a team. He’s not necessarily a bad guy. He’s just a guy who is doing what he has to do to make it in life, even if it means robbing for a living.

Mick Rory / Heatwave: Mick is our Volstagg. I won’t say much here about it because his motive is tied to Captain Cold’s. The only difference here is that they are at odds with each other for a time in this movie because of Cold turning to Hector Hammond and Reverse Flash turning their weapons into powers written into their DNA. His power has burned most of his body and it is very painful for him.

Hal Jordan / Green Lantern: Hal Jordan plays more of a role as Heimdall did. I mean Hal’s role will be bigger than Heimdall’s was in the first Thor movie. Heimdall was the only help for Thor in Asgard. So, Hal will be the help as the “Bad Cop” role alongside Barry’s “Good Cop” role. Some of the Apokoliptic themes of this movie are what lead Hal to bump into Barry as the Flash for the first time. These themes also take him back off-world to try to figure out what’s going on in the universe with the trafficking of those with potential metagenes in them.

Sam Scudder / Mirror Master: Mirror Master is our Lady Sif. That’s only because I didn’t know which Mirror Master I wanted to use. I didn’t know if I wanted to use Sam Scudder or Evan McCulloch or Eva McCulloch who appears in the 6th season of the Flash TV show. I know at first, I wanted a female because in the original comic book that inspired this movie the female baddy was Golden Glider. But I wanted to use the original Rogues. I also didn’t want to use Captain Boomerang because he has already been in two Suicide Squad movies. And I am not a fan of either Tricksters. So instead, I just kept it simple and stuck with the original Mirror Master Sam Scudder whose motive is tied with Captain Cold and tension between the two from the whole DNA and new powers situation. Which, by the way, has him stuck in the mirror dimension.

Nora Allen: The mother of Barry Allen is our Frigga. Her scene is minor because it will be of course a flashback of how she was murdered. Plus, she will have other flashback scenes of her raising and talking to Barry, her with her husband Henry, and even scenes of her affair with Captain Frye.

Henry Allen: The father of Barry Allen is our Odin. We will, of course, see him in flashbacks with Barry and Nora, as well as Captain Frye. But we will also see him during key parts of the movie when Barry goes to visit him in prison.

Other Supporting Character Rolls (Optional)

Here are other potential characters that could be written into the story that could help the plot or for whoever would write the script, but they are not essential.

Desaad: The chief scientist, chief torturer, and counselor to Darkseid, he could be shown in the movie as someone who gave Reverse Flash the technology to alter DNAs and give people with latent metagene superpowers.

Gorilla Grodd: In my Flash movie, Grodd would be the second of two end-credit scenes that would set up a future story later in my DCU.

Patty Spivot: Patty is another CSI police scientist who likes Barry but who could work in the same department as him. This would create a pull between his time as a CSI cop, the Flash, and deciding to be with her or Iris.

Lisa Snart / Golden Glider: Lisa is the leading villain in the comic that inspires my movie. Maybe she could appear with Rogues with a smaller role or even in a flashback of when they all went to get powers from Hector Hammond and Professor Zoom.

Hartley Rathaway / Pied Piper: In this movie, he is a villain turned hero/vigilante with a small role that could show him working to help Flash stop the rogues. He could also have scenes with David Singh being the first gay character in my DCU. He would be also aiding the CCPD. But if he appears in my Flash movie he would have to appear with …

Lieutenant David Singh: He is the love interest of Pied Piper and the direct supervisor to Barry Allen and Patty Pivot in the crime lab department who reports to Captain Frye. I’m pretty sure there are some interesting ways to write him into the story.

The Guardians of the Universe: If used in this movie, they could be the ones who tasks Hal Jordan to investigate if the technology that Desaad created has truly on earth and in the hands of Hector Hammond and Reverse Flash.

And there you have it! This is all the ingredients for my Flash & Green Lantern movie!
